Follow the Puigcerdá canal before you can admire the village with a breathtaking view of the Cerdan Plateau and the surrounding mountains.

At an altitude of 1,200 metres, Latour de Carol offers many advantages. Seen from above, this village offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Cerdane mountain plain and the surrounding peaks.

The Puigcerdá Canal (la Sequia): The first mention of this project dates back to May 14, 1310, when the waters of the Carol (or Aravo) were collected in Riutès. The canal crosses Latour-de-Carol, Enveitg, Pla de Rigolisa and reaches Puigcerdá. The rules are strict regarding the use of water: Spain has water from 4am to 4pm and France from 4pm to 4am. This regulation can change in case of drought and is always in favour of Puigcerdá. The capital of the Spanish Cerdanya has to maintain the 148 gates throughout the canal.

Departure: Car park of the cemetery, behind Carol's Latour church.

    THAT'S WORTH A VISIT!

The Parish Church dedicated to Saint-Etienne dates from the 11th century and was redesigned in the 18th century. It has a remarkable collection of Baroque altarpieces. The two most beautiful are those of St. Francis Xavier and the high altar, both from 1715, works of Joseph Sunyer, one of the greatest Catalan Baroque artists (1660-1751).
