A walk to enjoy an unique cultural heritage: the church dedicated to Saint-Etienne, from the 11th century and the Saint-Fructueux church in Iravals, representative of the first Romanesque art.
Latour-de-Carol, the tor de querol in Catalan, is a village located at an altitude of 1,200 metres and has an exceptional cultural and natural heritage. The river with the same name flows through this valley from the Lanoux pond, ideal for fishing lovers. This municipality includes the hamlets of Quès, Riutès, Saint Pierre de Cedret and the oldest, Yravals. Remarkable for the conservation of a magnificent 18th century rural habitat of the cerdan type, surrounded by a superb bocage landscape, crossed by the Carol river which runs down from the heights of Carlit and Campcardos, marked by hiking trails, bordered by hedges and dry stone walls, Latour-de-Carol has always inspired painters.
Departure: Latour de Carol's Town Hall Square.
IT'S WORTH A VISIT!
Sant Pere de Cedret: Large irrigated areas are at the origin of the large farms in the hamlet of Sant Pere de Cedret, which for a long time were the cause of Franco-Spanish quarrels. Its border situation explains its status as a local domestic smuggling platform but especially the very lucrative smuggling of mules and other cattle.
The Saint-Fructueux d'Iravals church, classified as a Historic Monument, is representative of the first Romanesque art. Dated from the 11th century, it contains high quality Romanesque furniture: in front of the 13th century altar, 13th century Christ, 13th/14th century virgin, 14th century altarpiece of Sainte-Marthe and 16th century altarpiece of Saint-Fructueux.
