On the Tracks of the Slates
A diversified itinerary, with beautiful panoramic views, crossing many villages with possible stops to enjoy a meal.
At an altitude of 1,350 metres, Nahuja has preserved a significant heritage of 18th and 19th century peasant architecture. Note the two panels from 1550 showing four scenes dedicated to the life of Santiago and the mural frescoes from the 17th century representing the Apostolic College.
Nestled on the side of the Cerdan plateau, at an altitude of 1,240 metres, Osséja, labelled "Green holiday resort", has a vast territory where there is the forest road (access by car) leading to the ridges that border Spain (towards Borne 504).
In the village, you can see the church of Saint-Pierre which has a very beautiful Romanesque window and a lake where you can see some magnificent swans.
Departure: Saint-Jacques de Nahuja Church.
THAT'S WORTH A VISIT!
Valcebollère is known for its shale quarries whose lloses have been sold throughout Cerdanya for the roofing of churches, large isolated farms and all types of houses. Mining ceased in the 1960s because it was so difficult. The beauty of the local buildings in the villages and their hamlets owes much to the work of the quarrymen, impeccable stone technicians who nevertheless remained stubborn farmers.
