PR N°1
An amazing landscape, the lake with its impressive reservoir and a ride back through the woods, in the shade of hook-type pines and birches. Possibility to comeback by the GR7, by going down on the left after Font Vive to go back to the car park.
An abundant and diversified fauna to admire all along the hike. From the beginning, you will be able to observe many mouflons that often relax on this sunny slope. Further up, cutting into ridges, herds of isards can appear, while around small grassy upland areas dotted with stone piles, pretty marmots show up and whistle. In the sky, the evolution of golden eagles and griffon vultures does not leave anyone indifferent. Note the magnificent and rare bearded vulture, a raptor with a wingspan of nearly 3 metres and orange colours.
Departure: Porté Puymorens, lake road, car park of the ex-Electricity Company cable car at the bottom of the valley
THAT'S WORTH A VISIT!
LE LANOUX: The Lanoux, located at an altitude of 2,213 metres, was already before the construction of the dam, the largest lake in the Pyrenees. It has since become the largest water reservoir in the Pyrenees for electricity production with a depth of 93m, a surface area of 172 ha and a useful water volume of 70.7 million m3.
Lanoux looks like a fjord or an inland sea, surrounded by mountains and about ten peaks whose altitude varies from 2,600m to 2,921m for Carlit, the highest peak in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
This lake has been used for fishing since time immemorial, it is now used for electricity production and recreational fishing.
