LA BOUCLE DES 12 ÉTANGS DU CARLIT

Departure: Lake of The Bouillouses (2017m)

From the car park, follow the direction of Lac des Bouillouses and the dam. Walk past the Bouilllouses refuge and cross the dam. At the intersection just after the dam, leave the GR10 on the right along the lake and take the path on the left that passes in front of the hotel des Bones Hores and climb into the grove in a north-west direction. At the junction located at 2143 m, leave the Estany del Viver on the right and take the path on the left which crosses a shelter between the Estany Negre, the Estany Sec (on the left) and the Estany de la Comassa (on the right) which you reach after 30 minutes' walk. The path climbs slightly and runs over the Estany Llong on the left to a junction located around 2230 m where you will find the Estany de Valell after 1 hour's walk. Take the path on the left, which turns west and leads to the intersection of Estany de Sobirans after a 1h30 walk. At the junction, leave the Carlit path and turn right to the Estany de Sobirans then the Estany de Trebens and its shelter (2h30 walk). The trail runs along the Estany de Castella and then joins the Estany de les Dugues (3 hours walk). It then descends through a small valley full of vegetation to reach the Estany Del Viver and the intersection of the path used on the way there (4 hours' walk). Continue the descent to reach the Hotel des Bones Hores and the car park after a total of 4h30 walk since departure.
